There are a number of incidents which shaped the country as it is today. But some developments which took place in the Indian history were not considered good and can be called as mistakes. Here, I am enumerating some of the biggest mistakes in the history of India. Had these changes not happened we could have been different today. Read the next few lines and give your comments and opinion about the mistake which you consider the biggest. But you can enlist some other points in the comment section for sure.
- Ashoka the Great adapted to a more peaceful approach to Buddhism. Due to this, the borders in north east west became very porous and more invasion followed. This gave options for foreign forces to attack India through same route.
- Pritviraj Chauhan let Muhammad Ghauri go in first Battle of tarain. He should have finished the job there itself.
- After Battle of Rajasthan - the Arab stronghold over sindh should have been eliminated; but the alliance let go of the chance and stopped - this gave a small base for subsequent attacks (after a long time, but still).
- Indian National Congress (not the current one) violently opposing World War I - Jinnah took their side and started getting his voice heard in London
- Nehru's mistake with Chinese - he did not accept Patel's suggestions and instead tried a forward approach.
- Indira's decision to use military and take Golden Temple - effectively seen as invasion by Sikhs.
- Rajiv's farce with IPKF.
- After Child's War, Aurangazeb should have destroyed the forts of British, which served as base for British to expand.
- Returning to previous borders during 1948/1971 on West - should've gone all the way and got what was marked on the map. No 'Kashmir Issue resolution' BS.
- Dismantling R&AW infrastructure outside of India during 90's
